One of the Russian pilots shot down over the Kharkov region admitted that high-explosive bombs were used to hit targets. He announced this at a press conference in Kyiv today, March 11.
"Free-falling high-explosive bombs were used in Kharkov. The radius of destruction was 60 meters," said pilot Maxim Krishtop.
Krishtop, a lieutenant colonel in the Russian army, said that they had been told about the invasion of Ukraine back in January.
"During the performance of a combat mission, I saw that the target was not military facilities, but residential buildings and civilians, but I followed the order. I completed my first combat flight on February 24 to defeat enemy personnel in the Balakleya area. The target was hit. The second flight was carried out March 3. The target was a column of enemy armored vehicles in the Izyum area. The target was hit. The third combat flight was carried out on March 6. There were 4 tons of high-explosive aerial bombs on board. In the process of completing the task, I realized that the target was not enemy military facilities, but residential buildings and civilians. But I carried out the criminal order. After the bombing, I was shot down by Ukrainian air defense systems," the lieutenant colonel of the occupying army said.
Krishtop said that they were told that all of Ukraine's air defenses are broken and not working, that you can fly - and not be afraid of anything.
He asked for forgiveness from the Ukrainian people.
"I recognize and acknowledge the monstrous crimes committed by me. I want to ask forgiveness from the entire Ukrainian people for the misfortune that we have brought them. I promise to make every effort to ensure that this war ends as quickly as possible. And to hold everyone accountable guilty of the genocide of the Ukrainian people. We have already lost this war," the Russian pilot said.
