Ukraine got the right to host the European Championship in basketball among men's team in 2015. This decision of the FIBA Europe Board was announced by the President of the organization Olafur Rafnsson in Munich (Germany) on Sunday, December 18. The official website of the Basketball Federation of Ukraine reported.
December 14, basketball associations of France, Germany, Italy and Croatia have decided to withdraw their joint application to host EuroBasket 2015 because of dissatisfaction with certain moments of tender procedure. The joint application of these four countries was the only competitor of Ukraine in the struggle for EuroBasket 2015.
Ukraine has proposed to hold the European Basketball Championship in the largest cities of the country, in particular, Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Kyiv, Lviv, Odessa and Kharkiv.
The Ukrainian delegation in Munich was presented by the Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Infrastructure Boris Kolesnikov, President of the Basketball Federation of Ukraine Alexander Volkov, President of the National Olympic Committee Sergey Bubka, Director of Euro 2012 in Ukraine Markiyan Lubkivsky, Head Coach of Ukraine's basketball team Mike Fratelli and Ukrainian basketball player, two-time NBA champion Stanislav Medvedenko as well as Chairman of the State Service of Youth and Sports Ravil Safiullin.
"SQ" Reference. European Basketball Championship is the international tournament among European men's basketball teams, held every two years under the auspices of FIBA. The first tournament was held in 1935 in Switzerland. The current holder of the title of the European Champion is Spain, which won last two championships.
