Ex-Minister for Internal Affairs Yuriy Lutsenko stopped hunger strike

Экс-министр внутренних дел Ю. Луценко прекратил голодовкуEx-Minister for Internal Affairs Yuriy Lutsenko stopped hunger strike. He stated it on May 23, the "UNIAN" website reported. "I stop hunger strike, as I consider it inappropriate in a later date", - said Yuriy Lutsenko. According to him, he declared a hunger strike to prove that in Ukraine there is no justice and the prosecutor's office.

May 23, Pechersk District Court in Kyiv appointed for examination a criminal case on Yu.Lutsenko, giving him a measure of restraint in the form of detention. An appropriate decision after nearly hour break was announced by presiding trial judge Sergey Vovk. The first hearing on the case will be held on May 27.

At the same time, the court dismissed several petitions of Yu.Lutsenko, in particular, to change measure of restraint, to close the case, to try a case by the jury trial, to take up a case in open mode, as well as the disqualification of Judge S. Vovk. In the decision, the court has not indicated how much a period of custody of Yu. Lutsenko is extended.

 "SQ" Reference. Yu. Lutsenko was arrested by special forces of the Security Service of Ukraine "Alpha" on December 26, 2010. On December 27 he was arrested. April 21, 2011 the Court of Appeal of Kyiv decided to extend the term of Yuriy Lutsenko in custody until May 26. The next day the ex-minister has announced an indefinite hunger strike.
