The husband of former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, Alexander, who is now in the Czech Republic, asked for political asylum in this country. This was reported by the "RBC-Ukraine" with reference to the Czech newspaper "Pravo". According to the newspaper, A. Tymoshenko filed this request in the last days of 2011. The Minister of Internal Affairs of the Czech Republic Jan Kubica discussed this request with Foreign Minister Karel Schwarzenberg on January 3.
According to the official website of BYuT, this step by A. Tymoshenko is the answer to "immoral attempts to put pressure on Yu.Tymoshenko through the persecution of her relatives and friends." A year ago the Czech Republic has granted political asylum to former economy minister of Yu.Tymoshenko`s government Bogdan Danylyshyn. Then it led to a significant cooling of formal relations of Prague and Kyiv.
