President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych signed the law № 4061-VI "On Elections of People's Deputies of Ukraine" adopted by the Verkhovna Rada on November 17. This was announced by Head of the Presidential Administration Sergey Lyovochkin, the website of the President reported.
V.Yanukovych "welcomed the consolidation of all political forces of the Verkhovna Rada around the law." "The new law was prepared with the participation of domestic and international experts, meets international standards of democracy and performs the implementation of relevant international obligations", said in the press service.
President of Ukraine said that the next parliamentary elections to be held under this law "will be democratic and witness free will of the people of Ukraine."

The law proposes to establish a five per cent in the parliamentary elections passage barrier and mixed (proportional-majoritarian) system in which 225 deputies are elected by proportional representation on the electoral lists of candidates of political parties and 225 deputies by the majority system of relative majority in single-seat electoral districts. In addition, the bill provides that election blocs do not participate in elections. According to the law, parties and citizens have the right to nominate candidates through self-nomination. The election campaign lasts 90 days. By law, the electoral lists will not have column "against all".
