More than 200 Kharkiv officials were prosecuted for fraud with land

Last year, public prosecutor’s office of Kharkiv region filed 57 criminal cases on illegal land transactions. According to the Head of the department on protection of the interests of citizens and state in land relations of regional prosecutor's office Alexander Melnik, it is six times higher than in 2010.
"23 cases were brought to the court with established damages to the State amounting to more than UAH 146 million. Actually judgments were executed and more than UAH 19 million were returned to the state budget", said A. Melnik. According to him, the court is considering 311 cases of returning 4.7 thousand hectares of land to the state and municipal ownership. 700 hectares of land have been already returned.
As A. Melnik added, 212 officers, of whom 164 people are officials of state control, were prosecuted to disciplinary responsibility for illegal operations and violations of land relations.
"SQ" Reference. According to A. Melnik, Kharkiv region has 3 million 100 thousand hectares of land, 2 million 400 thousand hectares of which are farm land.
